The Housemaid

Trigger warning: movie contains self-inflicted violence

Millie is a girl seeking a fresh start as a housemaid, unaware of the dark secrets that the family carries, based on the book by Freida McFadden. Sydney Sweeney plays Millie, Amanda Seyfried plays the mom, Nina, and Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us) plays the husband, Andrew. First off, if you aren’t a fan of thrillers, walk away now. I read the book and knew what was going to happen, and even I still had my hands over my eyes at times. For those who are blind going in, this is a fun but violent one. Full of twists and turns you don’t see coming. Seyfried is fantastic at portraying unhinged and carries the movie. Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, A Simple Favor) directed, so it’s equal parts cheeky and awkwardly uncomfortable in the name of comedy. If you’ve read the book, it won’t disappoint. I probably won’t be seeing it again, but a good choice for the adrenaline junkies.
