BS High

You’ve heard of catfishing, but have you ever heard of ESPN being catfished? One week in August of 2011, during the High School Football Spotlight on ESPN, IMG Academy played an unknown school Bishop Sycamore. IMG destroyed them 58-0; afterward, the whole world learned that Bishop Sycamore wasn’t a real school. Enter Roy Johnson, a con man who told underprivileged black boys that he would get them their dream of playing D1 college football. He didn’t tell them that his “school” wasn’t accredited, he didn’t have stable finances, and he had zero connections to the football recruiting process.

This documentary is fascinating and infuriating. I’m convinced that the testimony done by Johnson will be studied by psychology majors on what a sociopath sounds like. His warped sense of right and wrong ultimately comes to a head when his project is broadcast nationwide (at the expense of young men). If you like football and if I’ve piqued your interest, give this a watch.
