Online dating, which was once a dreary method used only by those older than 35 on a computer, is now a popular way to meet new people, all from the comfort of your own phone. But how did we get here? Enter Whitney Wolfe (Lily James), who took an app nobody had heard of in 2012, Tinder, and helped it become a massive success. Her story doesn’t stop there, but that’s why you should watch the movie! I liked this movie; it wasn’t the best, but for a straight-to-streaming biopic, I enjoyed it. It’s fast-paced, and James plays a girlboss well. There are other fun actors like Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) and Jackson White (Tell Me Lies) in the cast. Similar to other movies of its kind, The Social Network, Vice, and The Big Short, there’s dramatization. Nothing can be taken verbatim until it’s court documents, so you have to hold every conversation loosely. In this case, Wolfe is under an NDA, so she wasn’t able to participate in any of the making of this movie. The writers, however, did extensive research, so I trust the overall tone the film has. It’s a human interest story about the dark side of the corporate world and how one person can change it. Good option for a night in!
