Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere

Fresh off the heels of his breakout tour, Bruce Springsteen (played by Chef Carmie from The Bear/Jeremy Allen White) needed time to reset before making a new album. Tucked in the New Jersey countryside, he wrestles with his complicated past and creates an album that isn’t anything like his past work. I saw this because I like White and am a fan of a good biopic. This was different than other musician movies because of the pace. Much slower and methodical, which shows the ups and downs rather than a montage zipping through time. While some movies, like Bohemian Rhapsody and A Complete Unknown, span multiple years, this film was set over a shorter period, from 1981 to 1982. Performance-wise, it was great. White talked about how he had vocal coaching for months to not just sound like The Boss but make it through a whole song without running out of steam. I would say his efforts paid off because some of the studio scenes are pretty remarkable. Jeremy Strong, everyone’s favorite method actor, played his manager and will hopefully garner some attention come award season. Springsteen was active in the planning and filming of this movie, leading me to believe the majority is accurate. Overall, this was a good watch, pretty sad, so not sure I’d watch it over and over, but a great option for a music lover!
