I did not want to like this movie. I have a fierce loyalty to the original with Steve Martin and Martin Short (yes those guys from Only Murders) and boycotted this remake. However, I was forced to watch it and well it’s pretty great. Completely different from the “dad can’t accept his daughter isn’t 12” vibe that the original had its more of a dad whose life is not going as planned to try to let go of his daughter. There are plenty of laughs and even a funny wedding planner (no one will ever replace Franck.) I’d say give it a watch if you need a feel-good movie, but if you didn’t get any of the references from above you first have homework to watch Father of the Bride Part I and II from the early 90s.
