Trigger warning: movie discusses suicide
If you thought Beethoven had a tough time, try being Cate Blanchett. Lydia Tár is a famous maestra for the Berlin Symphony. From the trailer, I thought this was going to be a physiological thriller but I was wrong. It’s a very slow and detailed account of the day-to-day of a high-strung musician. Not everything is as perfect as it appears and Blanchett does a phenomenal job of encapsulating the stress and risk it can be to the elite. The director also produced and wrote the script which is pretty phenomenal. The takeaway/prediction would be either the script or CB’s performance will appear again come Oscar nom time. If slow-burn dramas or classical music isn’t your cup of tea, maybe skip this one or wait to stream this later.
