Trigger warning: movie discusses suicide
If you thought Beethoven had a tough time, try being Cate Blanchett. Lydia Tár is a famous maestra for the Berlin Symphony. From the trailer I thought this was going to be a physiological thriller but I was wrong. It’s a very slow and detailed account of the day to day of a high-strung musician. Not everything is as perfect as it appears and Blanchett does a phenomenal job of incapsulating the stress and risk it can be to elite. The director also produced and wrote the script which is pretty phenomenal. Takeaway/prediction would be either the script or CB’s performance will appear again come Oscar nom time. If slow burn dramas or classical music isn’t your cup of tea, maybe skip this one or wait to stream this later.
