Trigger warning: movie discusses sexual assault
Diana Nyad was a marathon swimmer who was acclaimed for swimming great distances. The one swim she couldn’t do was the 110-mile route from Cuba to Key West, Florida. Well at the age of 60, she decides she wants to try again! Along with her best friend, professional racquetball player Bonnie Stoll (played by Jodie Foster) as her coach, Nyad (played by Annette Benning) begins to get back and shape to conquer the ocean. Despite making me want to not swim for over 24 hours, this movie was well made and gave me a deep respect for any aquatic athlete. Anytime someone wants to conquer the impossible, the tactics and science behind it always astound me. Good watch if you’re in the mood for a human interest piece.
