We’ve all heard of Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel, the famous drug dealers from Colombia. But how did they tap into the market or the rich and famous in Miami, Florida in the 70s? The answer is Griselda Blanco. Frequently underestimated and challenged, Blanco rose to power quietly, forming her own cartel, and ultimately getting the nickname “The Godmother.” Sofia Vergara plays Blanco in this limited series showing how she got started in the US. As with most crime shows, this one is violent and cold-blooded but really well done. Vergara, who’s only been known as Gloria from Modern Family shows that she has range just like every other actor. The shows goes back and forth between law enforcement and the drug trafficking business. There of course are discrepancies between the truth and fiction but from what I read it’s pretty realistic. A good watch if you’re in the mood for subtitles and drama!
