First of all, if you haven’t seen the original Road House with Patrick Swayze, stop what you’re doing and go watch that one first. Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal), a cool-calm-and-collected bouncer, is enlisted to help a small-town bar owner keep the thugs from destroying her bar night after night. But there’s a wealthy jerk who will stop at nothing to close their doors. Enter, conflict! Alright, so I was against this remake because I think the original is so bad it’s good and there’s no need to mess with perfection. However, this was nicely done. It’s a new setting, the main character has more of an arc, there’s Conor McGregor, and terrible Hawaiian shirts, a lot is going on! Much like the first, there’s an obscene amount of violence/violent death but it’s still awesome. My loyalty will always be to Swayze but Gyllenhaal, you’ve done good kid. Very entertaining if you need a pointless dude movie to watch.
