Trigger warning: movie contains scenes of domestic abuse

International bestseller turned movie, watch a florist find love but realize it’s more complicated than she’ll ever know. Based on the book of the same title by Colleen Hoover, Blake Lively plays Lily, a flower enthusiast who just opened a flower shop in Boston. By happenstance, she meets Ryle (Justin Baldoni from Jane the Virgin) a handsome neurosurgeon and they fall in love. Well her McDreamy fantasy is cut short when their relationship starts to remind her of her parents’ abusive one. To complicate things, she runs into her first love Atlas (Brandon Sklenar) and she has to make a choice about how she wants her life to be. Jenny Slate plays her best friend, so that along with Lively’s whole wardrobe made the movie for me personally. I didn’t know what to expect but despite the completely weird name choices, this was pretty good! This was Baldoni’s third movie to direct and I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of rom-com cheesiness that sometimes happens when a romantic novel is made for the screen. I hope it will spark a good conversation afterward. Good watch for the masses I’d say and maybe pack a couple of tissues!
