One Battle After Another

Bob (Leo DiCaprio) is a paranoid hermit who has been in hiding since his radical revolutionary past. When his daughter is hunted by his nemesis, a psychotic colonel (Sean Penn), he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe. So, the early buzz and reviews said this was a 95% perfect movie. I went opening weekend, and I didn’t really know what to think for a few days. Granted, Paul Thomas Anderson movies aren’t my usual cup of tea, but I’ll always keep an open mind and not shy away from a controversial movie. Overall, this movie was good, awkwardly funny, and kept me engaged, which is hard to do when the runtime is just under three hours. Leo did a great job with his character, so I’m sure there will be some recognition in the coming award season months. Regina Hall (Girls Trip) and Benicio del Toro (Phoenican Scheme) are worth mentioning because both of their performances were great too. There’s a definite political undertone to the whole movie, so if you don’t like movies that are satirical or socially charged, then I would skip it. If you like PTA movies, then I would definitely go to see this!
