Zach Horwitz was an aspiring actor who started a successful health food chain, worked with Netflix and HBO, bringing hundreds of movies to Latin America, all while being personally mentored by Starbucks owner Howard Schultz. Yeah, I didn’t believe that sentence either. However, a very charismatic man in his 20s convinced hundreds of people that he was the real deal. Over the course of six years, people gave their life savings totalling close to $230 million, along with $650 million from investors, to fuel his lavish lifestyle. The biggest Ponzi scheme in American history came to a halt in 2021 when he was convicted of wire fraud. Like most crime documentaries, there’s more to the story, and as the episodes unfold, you learn the plot twists that this guy had up his sleeve. Interesting to watch, but I wouldn’t call it a must-see.
