“You can see how this looks, right?” the famous tagline from Chris Hansen on To Catch A Predator, a reality show on Dateline NBC when grown men were caught in the act of trying to lure underage kids. A light-hearted show to the masses in the early 00s. Based on the 2007 Esquire article “Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die” by Luke Dittrich, you watch the show as it builds momentum and how the pressure to succeed can make or break you. Hansen was not involved in production. Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) plays Chris and is uncanny in his voice and mannerisms; Merritt Wever (Severance, Unbelievable) plays his producer; Skyler Gisondo (Righteous Gemstones) plays the hired actor who is the decoy. Knowing that this movie wasn’t grounded in facts already sets you up to expect artistic license. It’s dark and weird and awkwardly funny at times, but it’s not for the faint of heart. It was definitely well done but I would be cautious about recommending this to just anyone. If you were a fan of the show this would be an interesting interpretation for you. And if you do see it, I would encourage you to make sure you have something to do afterwards!
