I loved the original and was against this remake from the beginning. I couldn’t believe that Steve Spielberg would defile the amazing work of terribly accented Natalie Wood and Rita Moreno performances that I grew up with. However, since this got so many great reviews and nominations, I gave it a whirl. I will admit right now that I was wrong. First of all, it was nice to see actors that aren’t 30 play teenagers. The changes to the story were fresh and made sense. Ariana DeBose who plays Anita is nominated for many awards and is very well deserved. Overall, probably the best remake of the past few years and a refreshing take on the classic musical.
