Trigger warning: movie contains scenes of domestic abuse and attempted sexual assault
Based on the worldwide bestseller by Delia Owens and produced by the one and only Reese W, we finally have the movie. This movie is about an outsider Kya, that has spent her whole life living in a marsh in North Carolina. When one of the well-known boys in town is found dead in the marsh, they are quick to assume and convict Kya. After getting the full picture of who she is and what’s gone wrong with her life, you get to decide; did she do it or is she being framed?
Super glad they didn’t mess this up. Kya is played by Daisy Edgar Jones (Under the Banner of Heaven) who does a great job at playing the misunderstood heroine. Full of fresh faces this movie is the first major film for Hello Sunshine productions and most certainly won’t be the last. If you read the book, there are some differences but I don’t think it’s anything to pick up a pitchfork over. If you love a murder mystery/court case, maybe give this one a go!
