For years I’ve been waiting for Steven Spielberg to write an autobiography. I should have known that it would be in movie form! The Fabelmans was co-written and directed by Spielberg and is based on his childhood. It follows the fictitious Fabelman family from the 1950s to the late 60s, specifically from young Sammy’s perspective. Having a brilliant dad, an artistic mom, three sisters, and a monkey makes for an interesting household. Haven’t done a ton to research on what is made up and what is based on real-life but this movie was magical. Stevie S is my favorite director and so it was fun to see his family dynamic and what influenced him in his formative years. Not entirely light-hearted but there’s humor sprinkled throughout this human interest drama. Cheers to The Fabelmans but also still hoping for a book one day…
