The Idea of You

Based on the book by Robinne Lee, Solène (Mia Thermopolis/Anne Hathaway), a divorced gallery owner who is about to turn 40, has a solo camping trip planned when unexpectedly she has to take her daughter to Coachella. While there, they have tickets for a meet and greet of the boy band of the moment. Well one of the members, Hayes (Nicholas Galitzine, Red, White & Royal Blue, Purple Hearts), catches her eye. Next thing you know he shows up at her art gallery and boom, romance. What I enjoyed about this movie was that it’s semi-realistic. What really would happen if a 40-year-old tried to date a 24-year-old heartthrob in the age of social media and scrutiny? It also is not completely predictable which is refreshing given the Hallmark-like movies clogging up the platforms lately. It’s a fun choice for a night in, but I think it won’t be dethroning any classic rom-com.
