This chilling series tells the tale of how Oxycontin came to be on the market and encouraged its users to abuse it. From exaggerations on the drug companies’ side to negligence on the FDA’s part, we get to see how corrupt the drug corporation can be. Yes, this is a “based on true events” series but all of it is based on real facts used in lawsuits later. Even made-up conversations will make you angry. As someone who was born in the 90s, I was completely unaware that when Oxycontin was put on the market it was advertised as not addictive. Michael Keaton portrays a doctor who was lied to and gave his patients access to Oxy without knowing its addictive qualities, ultimately getting addicted himself. Kaitlyn Dever (Unbelievable, Booksmart) plays a patient that is desperate for pain relief and watches her through her addiction. You watch the authorities’ journey to take Purdue Pharma down. Overall this was a compelling and thought-provoking series.
