Warning: movie contains gruesome violence and depicts sexual assault
All women, African, Braveheart. That is what this movie encapsulates. Based on true events, the African kingdom, the Dahomey, in the 1800s must protect its people from the slave trade. The only line of defense? All female warriors led by Viola Davis. Imagine if the king’s guard from Black Panther (the Dora Milaje) but more rural and even more badass. When I compare it to Braveheart I’m not exaggerating the violence level. It’s gruesome and accurate and awesome (if you like that kind of thing). There’s more to the movie than just fighting but you’ll have to find out for yourself. There’s a reason it has 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
