The best way this movie was described to me was that it’s The Purge but with premarital sex. In a dystopian New York, the government has outlawed sex between unmarried people. Meaning one night a year, people are given a pass to do with it what they want. Allie (Monica Barbaro, Phoenix from Top Gun: Maverick) is a singer-songwriter hoping to find a connection and Owen (Mr. Dua Lipa/Callum Turner) is a heartbroken pizza shop owner trying to get out of his comfort zone. Through misadventure, they find themselves stuck together, could it be love or just circumstance? I had high hopes going into this. Will Gluck, who also directed Easy A and Anyone But You, made me think I’d be laughing the whole time. I hate to say it but I was disappointed. While the premise is very original, it fell short I believe because of the script. Overall it was cute but I would wait to watch this one day when you’re sick at home.
